UNDERSTANDING PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)

Phenylketonuria PKU is a rare inherited disease. It impacts the body's ability to process an essential nutrient called phenylalanine. Normally, the organs makes an enzyme designated as phenylalanine hydroxylase, which changes phenylalanine into tyrosine. In those suffering from PKU, this enzyme lacks function properly. As a result, phenylalanine in
